ACSA’s Equity Project focuses on 3 goals: membership, professional development, and community. All of these goals support the overarching vision of building the cultural proficiency capacity of our leaders in order to effectively eliminate the educational gaps that we see in our schools. As educational leaders, we must increase our awareness of equity issues, address our own belief systems and biases, and improve our cultural proficiency levels. Once we have taken those steps in this journey, our changed hearts and mindsets will automatically lead us to next steps that effectively serve our students and school communities. This presentation will provide for an interactive session where participants will focus on serving students through a cultural proficiency lens. Participants will also have an opportunity to participate in a reflection on the history of public education in the United States as well as their role as agents/targets of oppression. They will also have an opportunity to review current educational data that present equity challenges for them while brainstorming with colleagues the practical steps that they can take to lead for educational equity.,
